Search this topicOn an iPhone with Face ID, hold either volume button and the side button until the power slider appears. Drag the slider, wait about 30 seconds, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. On an iPhone 6, 7, 8, or newer Home-button SE, hold only the side button to show the slider. This ordinary restart does not erase your files.
Quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together on an iPhone with Face ID. On a model with a Home button, use the Home and side buttons instead. Open the screenshot preview to crop or mark it up, then follow the save controls shown on your iOS version. Look in Photos under Screenshots to find saved captures.
Open Control Center and touch and hold the Screen Recording control. Turn Microphone on if you want narration, then start recording and wait for the three-second countdown. Finish by tapping the recording indicator at the top of the screen or the recording control again. The video is saved in Photos. Some apps block recording, and screen recording cannot run together with screen mirroring.
Connect to Wi-Fi, open Settings, tap your name, then choose iCloud and iCloud Backup. Tap Back Up Now and keep the phone connected until the backup finishes. Check the date and time of the last successful backup beneath that control. If iCloud reports insufficient storage, make room or change your storage plan before relying on the backup. Automatic backups also need suitable connection and power conditions.
Open Settings, then General and iPhone Storage. Select an app you rarely use and choose Offload App. Offloading removes the app itself while keeping its documents and data, so you can reinstall it later. Check the storage breakdown first to see whether apps are actually the main problem. Delete App has a different consequence: it removes the app and its related data.
Go to Settings, Accessibility, then Display & Text Size. Open Larger Text and move the slider until the sample is comfortable to read. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes if you need more range. You can also enable Bold Text in Display & Text Size. These settings work in apps that support the relevant text features; an app with its own font controls may need a separate adjustment.
Open Settings, choose Wallpaper, then tap Add New Wallpaper and select Photos. Pick a picture and adjust its crop and available display options before tapping Add. Choose Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it across the Lock Screen and Home Screen, or Customize Home Screen to give the Home Screen a different appearance. Revisit Wallpaper in Settings whenever you want to edit the saved combination.
On supported current iOS versions, open Settings, Apps, Phone, then Screen Unknown Callers and choose Silence. Calls from unsaved numbers are silenced and sent to voicemail. Save important numbers first, especially if you expect calls from a delivery driver or school. To let unsaved numbers ring normally again, return to the same menu and choose Never. Check this setting when an expected call fails to ring.
Open Settings, then Notifications, and choose the app. Turn off Allow Notifications to stop that app’s alerts, or leave it on and adjust where alerts appear, along with sounds and badges. If you only want more privacy, change the preview setting instead of disabling every alert. Some apps also have their own notification preferences, so check those when only a particular type of message is unwanted.
Go to Settings, Privacy & Security, then Location Services. Select the app and turn off Precise Location to share an approximate location instead. You can also change when the app may request location access, using the choices available for that app. Check its behavior afterward: navigation, delivery, or nearby-search features may need more accuracy. Adjusting one app lets you retain location features elsewhere on the phone.
Back up your iPhone, connect it to power and Wi-Fi, then open Settings, General, Software Update. If an update is offered, choose Download and Install and follow the prompts, including your passcode if requested. Keep the phone powered during installation. The available update depends on your iPhone model. If the download cannot connect, a VPN or proxy connection can sometimes interfere with the update servers.
Open the app switcher, find the unresponsive app, and swipe its preview upward to close it. Then reopen the app and try the action again. On a Home-button iPhone, double-click Home to open the switcher; on other models, swipe up from the bottom and pause. Use this for an app that is stuck. Routinely force-closing every app can make reopening apps slower.
Open Photos, go to Collections, and look under Utilities for Duplicates. Review a matched set, tap Merge, and confirm the items. Start with individual sets so you can check what Photos has identified. If the Duplicates collection is absent, Photos has not presented detected duplicates there; it is not a list of every similar-looking picture.
Open the photo, touch and hold the subject until an outline appears, then release and choose Copy or Share. Paste the copied subject into a compatible message, note or document. Apple supports this photo-cutout feature on iPhone XS, XR and later with iOS 16 or later. It depends on the phone recognizing a separable subject.
Open the image in Photos and touch and hold a recognized word. Adjust the selection handles, then choose Copy and paste into your document. For a video, pause on the frame first. Live Text requires supported hardware, software and language; check Settings, General, Language & Region if the feature is turned off. Review copied numbers and spelling before using them.
Open the photo, tap the Live Text button, then choose Translate. If prompted, continue and select or change the language. Pause a video before translating text within a frame. The available options depend on supported languages and regions, and unclear lettering can be misread, so compare important details with the original image.
For an image edited in Photos, open it and look in the More menu for Revert to Original. Some versions place Revert inside the editing view. This restores the original rather than undoing only the last adjustment. With iCloud Photos, edits and reversions synchronize across your devices, so check the image before confirming.
Open the picture in Photos, tap Edit, then Crop. Open the aspect-ratio options and choose Square, then move the image within the crop until the subject is positioned correctly. Tap Done to save. Cropping changes the visible framing; it is not a promise of a particular pixel resolution or file size for an upload.
Open the image in Photos, choose Edit and Crop, then select the straightening control below the picture. Move its slider until the horizon looks level and check the edges before tapping Done. Straightening can trim some of the image, so make sure important details remain inside the frame. Use the comparison control to inspect your adjustment.
Open an edited photo, tap More and choose Copy Edits. Review which adjustments you want to include and copy them. Return to the library, select the destination photos, then choose More and Paste Edits. Review the results individually: Photos can adapt exposure and white balance, and pictures taken in different light may still need their own adjustments.
Open the image in Photos and choose Edit, then Adjust. Try the Exposure or Brilliance slider in small amounts, comparing the result with the original before saving. Watch bright areas so they do not lose detail while you lighten shadows. Tap Done when satisfied; making a picture brighter cannot recreate detail that was never captured.
Open the website in Safari and open Share, either directly from the toolbar or through the Page Menu. Choose Add to Home Screen; if absent, look under Edit Actions. On versions offering Open as Web App, enable it if you want that behavior, then tap Add. The icon opens the website; it does not guarantee offline access.
Turn on Reachability in Settings, Accessibility, Touch. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe downward at the bottom edge of the screen to lower its upper portion. On a model with a Home button, lightly double-tap that button without pressing it fully. Tap the upper portion of the display to return to the normal view.
Open the page in Safari and tap the Page Menu beside the address field. Choose Translate to the offered language when that option appears. Translation is not available for every language, region or page, so its absence does not necessarily mean Safari is broken. Check important names, measurements and instructions against the original when accuracy matters.
