Messages still arrive; you simply stop the usual notifications for that thread. Turn Hide Alerts off to restore them. This does not leave a group, delete its history or block the sender.
Check Settings, Notifications, Messages, Customize Notifications and Repeat Alerts. That setting can repeat a message alert at two-minute intervals. Choose the frequency you want, including no repeats if offered. If several separate messages arrived, changing this setting will not combine them into one message; it controls reminder alerts for received texts.
Open Clock and Timers, set the first duration, give it a useful label and start it. Tap Add to create another timer with its own duration and label. Names such as rice and vegetables help distinguish them when several are running. Timers continue while another app is open or the iPhone display goes to sleep.
